The Persuasions – Frankly A Cappella is a 2000 album by the singing group The Persuasions. Frank Zappa heard them over the phone while they were singing in a record shop on the East Coast and flew them out to L.A. to record their first LP, in 1969, for Zappa’s label.
The Persuasions are an a cappella group who started singing on the street corners of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn during the early 1960s and went on to produce many albums covering a wide range of musical genres. Jerry Lawson was their arranger, lead singer and producer for the majority of of their career until his departure in 2003. They have covered artists like Zappa, the Grateful Dead, Roy Hamilton, Jerry Butler, Sam Cooke, and Elvis Presley, and toured, performed, and recorded with Joni Mitchell, Liza Minnelli, the Grateful Dead, and Ray Charles.
