Smoke and Mirrors Percussion Ensemble – Vanish released in 2013 on Yarlung Records. Album presenting a wide tapestry of rhythms and harmonics skillfully arrayed across a broad and deep soundstage. There’s an immediacy, clarity, and transparency to this modern classical percussion recording that seemingly brings the performers to your living room.
They chose a single stereo AKG C24 microphone for these tracks. Elliot Midwood designed microphone preamplification equipment and Yarung recorded directly to RMGI 468 tape for what they releases as “The SonoruS Series.” Yarlung used the Hapi converter and Pyramix software from Merging Technologies in Switzerland to make these transfers to DSD.
